Changing Clone Head Valve Guides

Are there any tips or tricks to pressing old valve guides out and pressing in new ones in clone heads? I have a hydraulic press and was considering using a mandrel that pilots inside the guide and presses on the face of the guide. Was planning to heat the head. Planning to do a valve job after installation.

Yeah like Kart43 said, pretty straight forward. In fact, you don't even need heat. They are a light interference fit. Just double check the protruded length into the port for tech reasons.

I do this often, whenever I port a head I press the valve guides out of the way first.

Big drill press works too.
I use a bolt and push.

You don't need heat, but it hep with removal ( warm up in an oven at 400F ).
Heat and cold makes putting the new ones in a lot easy.

Dry ice is handy.
No heat required at all

Be aware that you will need a reamer to cut for clearance and a seat cutter to true up the face.

What size Reamer to clean up the stem hole do you use Don? The hole closed when I pushed the guide down ...thanks (0.216 or 5.5 mm? ). Will buy what you recommend thanks

If you are porting and just want to push the guide out of the way a bit you won't need to ream.
But when you push it back you will find you need to touch up your seats because things do shift just a bit and that is enough to make the difference between good valve seat contact and not....
