It could be the ground strap on back of motor, or the ground to starter. It could also be the actual key switch or the harness going down through the steering column.

Pretty sure the actual switch i further down the colum near the lower dash .
The key only moves it .
Try to get under it and jump the starter with a screwdriver .
It does have 13 volts not 10 or 9 .
This happen suddenly may be a fuse some where in the control circut .no clicks no nothing occasionally if it clicks you can bang on the starter and it will go or turn the engine over by hand it the bendix is sfuck that will release it .

If not starter or wiring issue. Does the security light stay on in the gauge cluster when trying to start? If so, turn key as if youre going to start and wait 10 minutes (security light shouldve gone out)then off. Do 2 more times. May have lost its security memory or be a bad key or theft module.

Before you dive in too far, check the basics. Test for 12volts at the heavy cable on the starter then check for 12volts at the small gauge wire at the starter when someone is trying to start it.

Didn't some gm vehicles around that year have the radio and security tied together ?
If you changed it out it caused issues .

It was the starter....put a rebuilt one in and it started right up....thankfully, these electronic issues can be a big pita many times...thx for everyone's input....?
