2500hd rocker rust

I have a '06 25000Hd that I dearly love with 190k miles. The rockers are showing rust(typical chevy deal). Has anyone had experience with having them fixed?---not covered. I'm gonna take it in for an estimate today. Thanks for any experiences and opinions. John

I just did the rockers and cab corners on my buddy’s 06 duramax king cab. The inner rockers are usually bad too. We buy everything from fixmyrust.com. They have some nice thick sheet metal. The company that makes them is Key parts I believe. We cut out and welded in all new inner and outer rockers and cab corners, expoxy primed everything, then shot it in black bedliner up to the bottom body line. We sprayed the bottom of the bed and tailgate too. It turned out pretty good. I would guess you will be in the $2,000 price range to pay someone to do it. That includes all materials.

Wow. That’s pretty expensive. I need to start charging more... lol. Depending on the extent of it I usually charge $1800-2000. For while job.

John,
Where are you located?
We have a sponsor here locally that helps us out, and I would highly recommend them.
Maybe you could find someone local to you that would cut you a deal as part of a sponsorship on your kart team?
Auto body shops are generally covered up in insurance jobs from now through mid summer - then they'll slow down a bit. They may factor into the price quotes you are getting too.
We have an '06 Express van that the notorious rocker rot just showed up on this fall. We'll be going through the same deal as you probably after race season ends.

All the best,
Brian Carlson

I talked to a good body shop the other day---$1500 per side--not sure what I,m gonna do.
That is likely full replacement on both sides. Not just cutting the part out that is showing now or even 6inches further on each side of the showing through rust. If they don't do the whole thing it will start showing again in a year or two and you will come back to them asking what the heck.

Paint is most likly half that cost . Paint is unbelievably expensive.
Although at 3 grand i could buy a weledr and learn how . Shoot they probably even use seam sealer as well. Any one can smear that on the unsealed spots .

Modern body shops generally replace full panels like box sides and doors.
Most are reattached with modern epoxies that are stronger than the original spot welds.

Seam sealer can hide a lot of sin. LOL

I run a body shop in pa ...cutting out bad grinding fitting not using seam sealer ...1000 per side is about right ...but dont weld them on that only makes a place for more rust to start ..use a body panel adhesive has rust inhibitor in it and helps alot...honestly take your time get everything fit up and you will be surprised how well you can make them and save yourself about 1500 labor
