AKRA visual inspection

The AKRA ruling of the 30 degree seat cut “top” is being challenged by some who have illegal heads that won’t pass the visual inspection. The ruling that AKRA was forced to change to is very clear as to the expectation of the visibility to the flat portion on the top of the seat.

Keep in mind that the “compared to known stock part” was removed so as to not dq so many heads that have flooded the field.

Now that we have set a standard for inspection there are still those who want to challenge the new rule. Challenge not excepted.

For those who are cutting the seat so close to the aluminum where it is not visible 360 degrees to the naked eye it will be called.

Why do we need this rule? To stop any further cutting that will continue to increase the cost of the head.

If we don’t draw a line in the sand research and development on the head could cost the consumer in the future upwards of $300. If you don’t think that is true step back and look at how the cost of the head has climbed over the years.

Will there be a gauge in the future to make the call easier? Possibly. But for now AKRA is calling it the way it is printed.

For those of you who think tech men are blind and want to challenge the call by tech, you have the right to box it up on the spot if you are an AKRA member.

Tape the box well with the names of tech, track promoter, and owner, across the tape. Address it to any National inspector or the AKRA office. Make sure there is a note in there with return shipping cost as well.

AKRA doesn’t certify blind men. For those builders who have made their brags that they are going to talk to promoters and convince them to not pull heads on June 1, it just shows your personality towards cheating.

One last issue that has not been discussed. Cost to send the engine back for reassembly if engine is legal. There isn’t any reason that the owner can’t purchase an inexpensive torque wrench and reassemble the engine himself. If he can use a wrench to work on the kart he can reassemble a head.

I will be doing a video on u tube as to how to do it soon. I keep you informed when it is ready. The only cost you will incure will be the head gasket. Those of you who are doing it right AKRA wants to make sure you are being treated fair when you race with others. DynoDon
