I recently purchased a Animal carburetor that was converted to alcohol bye supplier which has been not help at first the engine wouldn't idle without choke being on so I've raised needle valve all the way up richen the main and pilot jet to max air bleed screwed all the way in but the engine periodically starts surging and has excessive higher egt on it even higher than on gasoline I'm looking for some imput on what to do next also has new pulse pump filter and lines on it

Needle wont affect pilot jet .
You are going too need to go through it your self .
Is it non restricted ?
What and when are you getting exhaust gas temp ?
Racing in the shop or on the dyno ?
The thread by jamie webbb lays it out pretty well .
First thread on the page .

Yes it is restricted using the red slide my readings are at idle 1100 degrees at idle which is at 2600 rpm and 210 degrees cht

You need a set of pin gauges or drill bits to measure all the jets and the nozzle and tell us what size they are.
You also need to measure the air bleeds in the emulsion tube as well as the one at the bottom of the pick off tube.
the idle jet often gets plugged especially if methanol was left in it.
The float may also be too heavy and messing with the fuel level.
I have a set of pin gauges i can give you a good deal on.

NORMALLY FOR METHANOL
The idle jet should be somewhere between .016" and .025"
The main jet should be somewhere between .048" and .056"
The nozzle should be somewhere between .104 and .108"
The size of one hole will affect what the size of another hole should be.

. Just as a guess, it sounds like they sent you a stock carb. If you have a pin gauge set (.011" – .060" you can buy them from Craigs list) you should check the jets in your new carb.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but I can't find where Jamie talks about carbs.
