Hey Jimbo
Ask Al Edwards where he’s going to run. I think we have three super stocks and five WF between AMP, CMP, and GoPro.

Will do.
I had another person from Go Pro call about the Super Stock and i told him to talk to you and Scott Currier about it.
Maybe you and Scott should get together and talk to him about it.

Thought it was time for an update on the Northern Nevada Kart Club Super Stock program. We held our second race last weekend and had 10 entries! And there are two more being built. What a great use for those tired LO206 motors! Thanks Jimbo!

With out reading thru all the other posts.. Has the PRO GAS been mentioned as an option? These are great motor packages that play along with any local, state or national class programs. You have probably 85 percent of all the parts and a rule package is in place which needs only minor attention... Lots of pro gas motors on the shelves waiting to be fired up...

Funny you should mention that. At our local track we have someone running a pro gas against our super stocks and we run pretty close. Like you say, they were glad to able to get that engine out of mothballs and run it again.

Some experts keep telling me that multiple engine platforms can’t race together.... Really, I think it has more to do with the group of guys you run with. If they’re just having fun it can work, if they think they’re going WoO or NASCAR, it’ll go toes up fast.
I think Pro gas and Super Stock together is a good thing. I think ProGas, Super stock and World. formula together is even better.
It never made sense to me to let perfectly good motor sit on the shelf.

I haven't been to too many races this year, but we've had our super stock Animals (three of us), a couple of flatheads, a World Formula, a clone, a Predator, a Pro Gas, a K35 two stroke, a 125 shifter, and my son has been running his Yamaha the past couple of weeks all running together in the open class and we're all mixing it up pretty good. It's working because all of us drivers agree that we want to be able to play around with different engine combos and have fun with it. There's plenty of classes in the rulebook for the guys that want to get serious. We just want to have fun, and so far it's been a blast!

The fun part is the key. For some reason, guys forget that karting should just be for fun. Why people get so wound up and “rule” stuff to death is beyond me.
To me, the super stock is just more fun to drive than 206. I know Im in the minority but, I like having multiple engine platforms together. If adults are racing ( which is rare ) we can figure out a way to weight the kart or handicap them to keep it close.

I have to say, I’m always amazedhow upset a grown ass man can get over a race that pays zero point zero dollars to win.....

Its cool to hear you guys are having fun with it. Unfortunately the dirt world isnt so accepting. Ive run my bp animal in all manner of classes. Even at 420lbs in the clone class I had the clear advantage. Flatheads and progas too. Never seen a WF on dirt but it would probably be close. Just too many classes and too many people whine and complain. Have yet to see a superstock in my area and I doubt I will as the 206 has grown and dwindled with the predator coming in. Even our King of the Animal is now a clone race which was boring to say the least. Too many people beating and banging but thats what you get when money is on the line. Had a group of almost 10 guys ready to pull the animals back out this year but between covid and my dads surgery it pretty much fell apart. Hopefully next year will be better. I'll be dragging the animal out this weekend for my first and probably only race this year.

Btjones, you hit the nail squarely on the head, pounded it clear in, and even countersunk that SOB! Karting is so much FUN if you make it FUN! To be fair, when I was young I used to go home mad as all get-out if I didn't do well. Now - at 63 years old - I'm just glad to be healthy enough to still get in a kart and run that sucker around a track. It took me many years to figure it out and accept it, but I finally came to realize that every driver at the track wants to win just as bad as I do and they're trying just as hard as I am to do it. So why go home mad? We're all there to do the same thing! A pretty simple concept, really.

As an aside - just last night we took our road course/sprint karts to our local dirt oval. The people that own it are gracious enough to let us run in a class all by ourselves. We don't change anything except gearing for the shorter track. We run the same tires, same 50/50 side to side weight distribution, same steering setup, and so on as we run on the road course. Basically we don't change anything. Talk about fun!!!! We do it a couple of times a year and it's an absolute blast! We're so loose we end up practically backing into the corners and steer with the throttle and brake. It's all "turn right to go left", and it's a riot!

Man...That’s gotta be a blast. We had some guys here do the same thing but, it never really took off. There’s a local guy in the Charlotte area that just cutout a nice little dirt track on some property he owns. The plan is for it to be just a fun RWYB place.
( only problem is, we have to wait til after deer season to use it).
I look at things a different way. While most guys look at ways to limit engines, I look at ways to limit the environment.
on sprint karts, hard tires and 87 octane gas and a 600 motor claim would fix about any hog motor you can dream up. Hell, get a hard enough tire and youcould probably cleanup running a 90’s coyote.

The PRO GAS is a great motor. I have a collection and would be willing to rent out one or 2 if anyone was interested in running them at 103rd street in Jacksonville of BUSHNELL track at TS Racing. They will allow PRO GAS at each track..

Here's another engine you can add to your mix of engines. Bolt on a box stock World Formula head and carburetor to your stock LO206 sealed engine, this will add 2 HP with pump gas! ( Call it Formula 206 ) Very easy conversion, DIY and parts are all available from you local Briggs racing dealer.

That’s really a nice setup. I put one together this week and I was really impressed. I did use the WF coil but, I the meat of the power is down low so Indont think they’ll be a need to turn it past 6500(which the stock rod should handle)
I have to say, I was surprised at how much wider the total he power curve got with the WF springs with the stock cam.
it’s a great little play motor.

What great thread.
tons of great information and dialogue. I learned a lot in this thread.

...more than anything, I think I learned that I love motors....
All the different variations and possibilities are like engine porn to me....

Here are some of the options i offer for you to choose from.
It's hard to have a price for every possible variation so if you want something different just call, email or text me.

I will add that it has become popular to use the Super Stock in the Kiddy Kat Snowmobiles.
I now have 60 of the Std and the .005" oversize domed pistons in stock and will soon have 60 of the .010 and the .020" on the shelf.

Not to bring up old subjects but these seem to be two conflicting statements.

MACHING THE DECK

If the Animal rule for pop up is .005” there are shops that will machine it to .0045” and charge plenty for it.

The bottom line is that if you are allowed to do any machining, no matter how insignificant it may seem people will do it and charge you for it.

The Super Stock is an alternative to that in that you aren’t allowed to do any of it.

‐‐----‐------------------------------------------------------------------------

The importance of compression – Animal engine
It is documented from dyno and track testing that for every .005” dimensional compression change its equal to .1 HP and .1 second lap time on a 1 mile long road course race track. This was validated years ago by the 2 most winning WKA Gold Cup racers, Gary Lawson and Brett Farmer. So don’t under estimate the importance of max piston pop up and min head thickness as it relates to compression / HP and track lap times!
As i already said above.........If milling is not allowed what you end up with is the top racers and engine builders sorting thru blocks and heads to find the best ones that will give you maximum compression.

.1 second lap time
How important is .1 second lap time in Sprint Racing.
Lets for example consider a 1 mile long sprint track with an average speed of 45 MPH. So for every lap that you are .1 seconds faster than you competition you will be 6.6 feet in front of him. For a 15 lap race that puts you 99 feet in front of your competition.
On a side note..........do you think even 1 HP is important in a 500 mile race with a 850 HP Nascar engine, let me just say the Cup engine builders would kill for another 1 HP!
It might be on a smaller scale but that's why the top engine builders are passionate about paying very close attention to detail and precision when building kart engines!

The 206 block decks are machined so that you don't have the variation you have had on the Animal blocks in the past. I have had Animal blocks that i have had to machine as much as .020" off the deck to get .005" piston pop up.
All the new 206 blocks have just under the legal pop up of .003" The cranks and rods are also made to the same close tolerances.
