tring to get 35 degree in an animal with pvl using a degree wheel with dead stop put 8 degree key in spun it and showed 22 degree noway to run a key with 35 degree anyone else have this proublem

You have to turn engine at least 2000 RPM for the chip to be at full advance. Anything less than that will give you a lower timing reading. With an 8 degree timing key you should get 37 degrees. But you have to spin engine at 2000 RPM or more.
By the way that sounds like a bit too much timing!

is that to much timing with a 356 cam it says 34 degree

Mike47, What timing are you getting now that your spinning it at or over 2000 RPM? It takes a pretty healthy drill to spin a WF at 2000 RPM. We never ran over 35 timing with the 356 camshaft. Maybe 37 will be fine, not sure. I would take it for granted that all keys will give you what you think it should. There is play in the mounting holes in the coil bosses and also the air gap can influence the final timing.

Is this a stock Animal crank or a Flat Head crank?
If it runs just check the timing with it running

As Steve said 37 degrees is a lot of timing and Flat top suggested you may have the key in backwards.
Make sure you have everything set up correctly and run the engine to check it.
Good Luck
