looking at moving up Karts next season, and since i'm building a new one from scratch part wise. i've been told about the mini gears. would there be any benefits for running mini gears on a unrestricted clone on a Jr Wing Champ kart on a smaller track?
Could help might not, biggest problem with the average racer that hears this thinking they can get advantage is they don't understand gearing in the first place with regular gears, and if that's the case, NO won't help one bit.
Any piece, part, tool, if used correctly can be an advantage. The word "correctly" can not be expressed enough here.
Do a search here as theres been plenty of info on mini gears.
You will not have the same amount of gear ratio selection others have. You will have less ratio's to choose from.
Your gear ratios will also be different then those who do not use mini gears.
That can be an advantage or a disadvantage.
Not sure about the plate stuff but on adult stuff. YES it does when the starts matter….. when you HAVE to be off the gas it matters….. you will NOT be on the same gear ratio as everyone else who runs regular sprockets….. for instance most run a 12/62-64 which is a 5.16-5.33……. I run a 10/49-50 which is 4.90-5.00…..
The thing is believe a 1/4 of what you hear and 1/2 what you see….
Again this is unrestricted adult clone. I also give up about 20#’s to run 375#…..
