Axle help

What's the difference between a steel axle and a chrome moly axle? Need to replace the kids and don't know if there is an advantage to one or the other.

There is a spring rate difference. Which is better depends upon your chassis design, track conditions, and total vehicle weight. You should probably ask your chassis designer.

But, in my experience unless the kid has a lot of experience and truly has a lot of driving talent you probably won't notice a significant difference in lap times. So I usually go with the stronger axle. It could stand up to impact damage better, and there are other ways to tune handling.
