Do I run the clutch with the chain next to the engine or what I think is standard with the clutch gear facing outward?

Can I ask why the sprocket inboard? We are new to dirt oval and we are running ours with the sprocket out.

This places less stress on the crankshaft.
Less deflection of crank means less deviation in chain tension.
The clone has a reputation for having a weak crankshaft, so this helps that also.

This could also be seen as a safety precaution as it places the clutch body between the chain and the driver.

^ All the above PLUS it keeps some clutch heat off the sidecover and crankshaft oil seal.

Always run the clutch inboard (if you can.) There are some pavement sprint/road race chassis that are unable to be run inboard.

Good information. Based on the position of the motor mount on my kart the previous owner was running his inboard.
