Does the foam have to be in this assembly to be legal?

Good question . Unaltered in the rule book means as manufactured .
Thus the foam would need to be in place . If you want to go grey area you could use a small piece , or half a piece . As it states non tech . At risk of DQ . I sure can't see it gaining any horsepower .

I had a motor tossed because it was not in the assembly. The I read it non tech item so it doesn't have to be there the way I take it..
It is no longer a tech item under WKA rules..If they were going with other rules that could be possible...You should have a copy of the rule package were ever you race with you and be able to challenge them by showing what the rule states....

We had one of our engines fail tech several years back due to not having the foam insert in the breather.
I believe we were the victims of a witch hunt, but that's neither here or there.
Water under the bridge at this point...but if that's what caused us to win, I'll eat the foam. :)
The foam is NOT a tech item.

Thanks,
Brian Carlson
