BSP rules or Specs

Are you asking about spec class racing with the bsp engine ?
No current national organization that I know of .
It would be track specific : your track your rules .
They give a good overveiw of the engine on site .
Sealed engines leave a certain amount of wiggle room , the ole gentleman's agreement comes into play again .

BSP rules were the first rules set designed by Jimmy Sims who was the owner of Box Stock Project
(BSP). He relenquished the rules package to what is now known as AKRA. AKRA is one of 2 organizations that cover the clone engine. Hope that helps

I don't think there is a separate set of rules for that engine package. My guess is it is governed by AKRA or nka

We run the bsp sealed crate engine as a class in northern ohio and was a success this season and thoes who did run it loved it

Spec Crate Engine Rules

Karting Community,
There has been a lot of confusion and rumors as to who is sealing the Crate motors. We (the Box Stock Project) are the only ones with seals, and the only ones who are allowed to determine the legality of the sealed area of Crate motors. Tracks are to ensure that the correct seal number combinations are on the engines and are unaltered. The tracks and tech departments are responsible for tech on all other parts of the engine. There is a set of rules for the basic external parts on the motors. Rules are very basic, as it was intended to be an easy tech process.
Any engine seals broken by the track, tech man or racer, are no longer legal. If there’s a question of internal legality, engines can be sent to BSP for inspection and tech at the sender’s expense.
“If a seal is broken, its 100% illegal!”

We have changed the position of the seal on the valve covers. The side cover seal is still enforced and has not changed. As of July 31st, we are no longer updating the seals for the past original motors. Tracks and promoters were notified of the dead line to have them returned to us for free updating. We ask that all tracks and promoters honor the spirit and intent of this program by only allowing the engines with the newer valve cover sealing process. Pictures are included for clarification.
This class is not intended for experienced drivers, and is designed to be an introductory type class. Rules for the crate engine class are included in this letter and are from the Vega Sate Dirt Series “Spec Clone 375” class. They are highly recommended, as most tracks running the Crate Series class are using these rules. This let’s Karter’s go to any track and not have to change anything to race. These engines are also meant to be upgrade-able and used after the racer has moved up from the Crate class to a more advanced class. The engine can be rebuilt and turned into a stocker or?

NOTICE!!!!
WE DO NOT SELL, GIVE, MAIL, OR LET ANYONE OUTSIDE OF BSP SEAL, RESEAL, SWAP OUT OR POSSES ENGINE SEALS. IT’S IMPORTANT THAT SEAL NUMBERS CORRESPOND TOGETHER AND ENGINE NUMBERS IF AVAILABLE.

For what its worth i ran 23 races on a 212 sealed crate from them (have not had a chance to put on dyno since season is over to see fall off of the engine but dont feel there was much) and out of 27 motors sold none had a catastrophic failure. The sealed valve cover stops being able to get into the head to jimmy with it.

Valve cover and carb seal makes the engine unserviceable.
I fully understand the concept of sealed engines but there's something very unsettling about not being able to monitor conditions kinda like sending the kids off somewhere for an extended time without talking to them to see how they are doing.
It seems like a hard road to travel just for a level playing field.

the description says only BSP .

I didn't read all the rules you could have a bad day, if you encounter dirty gas or break a rocker arm, you would need a spare engine. All jets are accessible in the carb so it has to be teched on race day.

Did anyone have a rocker arm become loose ? You would be able to hear it if it was , could the racer take the engine with this condition to a class/track rep and have the engine replaced , as to keep on racing that day ? What if 10 engines had the same problem at the same time ? Getting those engines fixed would become an expense for someone , who bared that burden ? What about a spec oil ? Not trying to start anything , just curious .

No we didnt have any rocker issues... There was only a couple issues 1 being a sheered flywheel key and a fuel pump went bad thats it. Id say pretty good for 20+ engines running a 23 race schedule.

Ran into this recently. Wanted to go down to florida for some pavement stuff. Either swap head or get another motor.........or stay home.
