Hey guys, I know we are not supposed to have cages but this track close to me is pushing karters that direction. It is not a serious kart track, like most of you would compete at but very fun for those of us that choose to go there. Most everyone runs aluminum high back seats like a stock car would use. They are making the cages floating, not welded solid like a champ or cage kart. Question is this...does anyone make a normal lay down kart seat with a provision for a lap belt? Just thinking its got to be faster than the tall seats. Any ideas?

You can use any karting seat, just get the belt clamps and bracket that go over the tubing on the sides lap belt off post in front , the shoulder belts would come off the cage in the rear.

you can't strap them to the cage like you would in a champ. you would have to get the wrap arounds and do then on the frame rails and to the zbar . personally I don't like the laydown seats when belts are used. first is the reason you are asking there is no good way to help hold the belts close like they should be on your shoulders and it doesn't give you enough support from rear impacts without adding a halo to it. the other thing to consider is your hood unlike a champ where the cage doesn't float you would have to really hack a hood up to fit on a floating cage to get it low enough to see over and not bind the chassis up

Totally agree with shoulder belts not mounting to cage. Since the normal kart seat is so short I was thinking it could do more harm than good with shoulder belts. I was thinking lap only with a short cage and wedge style body.

Champ Kart where belts mount to rear Welded, a Cage rear slips entirely over chassis tubing and welded Difference ? other than OPINION

We run a lay down seat in my daughters kart with cage. Cut holes in seat for lap belt to go through. Run shoulder belts over the top of seat . they work very well. Our cage isn't welded on its bolted on loosely.

Between our Track, Pennscreek, Selinsgrove at least 20 bolt on cages all loose and all Lay down seats a few of the real young kids have the Alum Straight up seats.

Ken I think they are running rocker cages not just bolt on cages. The cages are made or built on springs where they actually move. I don't think it would be good to mount the belts to a surface that isn't solid and can move. Not to mention when you tighten down the belts it would put the cage back into a bind.

That would explain the confusion, Thanks for pointing that out .

big difference in a bolt on cage and a floating one. if you don't plan to use shoulder straps the lap belt should fit right over the top of the seat sides

i've been interested in the bolt on cage, but haven't seen one or even know where to start looking.....can someone point me in the right direction and maybe give me a link to some pictures? Thanks!!

If your referring to what is considered a bolt on cage around here and not what is being referred as a floating cage mounted on springs, you can view a bolt on cage on our web-site www.greenwoodraceway.com home page let the pictures scroll through the Deimler # 53 Black & Red kart on the Stand in the pits, that is a bolt on cage made by cliff @ JC Specialties, 570-837-0042. If you need more info on how it mounts up feel free to call me @ 717-712-3437 Ken.

Good Luck !!
