Can I please get some input on Snell M-2010 Helmet

I purchased a helmet for my son with a Snell M-2010 rating. Can someone please tell me if these are legal for NKA Karting regulations and if so how long will it be ok to use. Thank you very much

As far as I know that helmet should still be good at least through this years, though I'm pretty sure helmet ratings are on a 10 year cycle, I don't have my rule book in front of me

Think Snell rated helmet is good for 12 years.....................ig. 2005 should be good to 2017
the only difference is car and motor cycle not sure about karts....

I was thinking I read that manufacturers cannot sell 2015 helmets until October I believe was the month. I was holding off for this reason on replacing my snell 05.

This is the last year many/most associations are allowing Snell 2005 helmets; Snell 2010 helmets still have 5 years left for these organizations. An M rated helmet is a motorcycle helmet; it is fine for flat karts but is technically not permitted for champ karts in most associations, which require the fire resistant liner of an SA rated helmet (just as champs require a fire resistant driver's suit not needed in a flat kart).

There are, as would be expected, all sorts of sales on M/SA2010 helmets: Snell M/SA2015 helmets cannot be sold before October, as stated above.

The Snell Memorial Foundation recommends a helmet service life of 5 years.

A Snell M-2010 is designed for 2-wheel racing. However, there is also a Snell-K (Karting) qualification and a SA (4-wheel/fire retarded) qualification.
What I understand is that all are acceptable for Kart racing.

Snell M-2015 helmets are being sold online from what I've seen. SA's are on hold. No word on if there will be a K-2015. I just purchased a K-2010 this morning. Looking to get a Kevlar SA-2015 this upcoming winter. So long as it is new (never buy "used" or "like new"), the rating is within the last 10 years and it is not used, it should be ok.

I know there are quite a few tracks that have no "restrictions" on the Snell/SFI rating. It seems really dangerous. I have a old Snell 95 helmet that I bought in 2000, and while I love the paint job on it and it saved my brain a few times in a stock car, I wouldn't trust it for anything else besides collecting dust. Not sure why some of these tracks do this, for a $1500 kart, the $150 for a certified K/M-2010 helmet seems like nothing.

Restrictions are mostly set because helmets do deteriorate over time. They appear fine, but are weak.
So with that said, updating your helmet every 5 years isn't a bad idea.
