Carb Bore Question - Alchohol Vs. Gas

Is there a way to distinguish who built a clone carb if there are no markings?

I picked up a Ru*ing carb in a buy out and don't know anything about it. I checked the inner bore (engine side) size and its running right around .744. Center bore is just a hair smaller. Choke has been removed and epoxied. Has a huge main jet, and a GX140 E tube.

Sound familar to anyone? Just wish I knew if it came from a builder and who.

Also, new to clones & engines. Would the difference be between a gas carb and an alcohol carb be obviously noticeable? How would you know the difference?

I switched to alcohol and the jets are bigger for alky and I drilled out my emulsion tube other than that nothing different on appearance

'Gas' jet's will normally be in the .036-.040 range and 'Alky' jet's MUCH larger in the .058-.064 range. Too answer ur 'built-by' question....'I' have Never seen a 'Branded' carburator in Clone!

Dover marks his holy moses carbs, the unrestricted i have says HM3 then has a number below that, which i assume is a reference number or something like that so he can tell what was done to it if someone were to call and ask about that specific carb, like in this guys case. If his carb was marked, he could find out who built it, call and give the builder the number on it and find out what is done to the carb. Most builders have some sort of mark system on their carbs and engines.

With the large jets and no choke it is probably for Methanol. It could be one of our carbs, I don't mark them because we sell carbs to several builders. Give me a call and I can help you identify what engine/fuel it was built for. (800)-521-3560

Yes....the choke will typically be removed on Alky carbs as well. For that matter, if one finds a 'gas' carburator w/ the choke removed, he should probably 'assume' it has been bored out.
