chain replacement ??

How often do racers replace chain? My new chain when layed on floor in an arc against a straight edge from end to end had about 3". Have ran it 6 races and now it measures about 6 inches as I measure it. Seems like a lot of stretch in only six races. Thoughts anyone. Brand of axle gears preferred?
 
Measure stretch by comparing the nominal pitch x no. of links to whatever your new length measures over the same number of links. Replace when 2% elongated.
 
Best measure is a new hunk and an old one side by side with same number of side plates, compress the old one then stretch out, you will know for sure when it's worn out it will be at least 1/2" longer, best to not use because it will wear out your Sprockets, we Prefer Horstman.
