At this point removing most of the valve train and measuring or comparing lengths . Along with stud heights .
Provided the .150 gasket is actually .015 .
You haven't stated which side is the problem , may be a clue there .

I've fixed many engines by taking it apart and putting it back together again.

Nevermind it's been too long since I had the studs out, I was thinking they were the same thread in top and bottom of the hex on them. And no I don't drink that swill, gotta blame something else. Haha

Another thing , i wonder about .
Are you 100% sure it was not that way to begin with ?

Obstruction in the lifter valley comes to mind. Dropped a bit is something in there.

I've had this happen, it was the pushrod not correctly seated in the lifter. Pull it back apart, inspect all parts and reassemble. I'm betting it goes away on its own...
