converting to live axle

i have an axle that only on side has power to it and want to change it to a live axle. how is this done. havent taken it apart yet , im hoping i can just put a pin through it or wels . Any help will be appreciated.
 
Full length axle with bearing cassettes welded to frame. With out seeing the kart. It's gonna be along those lines one way or another.
