I'd remove the kickstart assembly completely (if it engages while you're sliding backwards, = expensive!!) And then just start like the shifters -- have someone push you with clutch in, and start in 2nd gear...dump clutch and go... OR start on a stand with a strap and switch to neutral.
If you're jackshafting it, use larger gear on primary side to start it (ie. have end of 3/4" shaft machined into a hex.)
