Flathead carb

I got a few carbs from a sellout and one has a channel filed out leading to the small pickup tube.

I was wondering why this was done and how it affects the carbs performance?

Second set of pics is a separate carb and I was wandering if anyone knows who the builder is?

A special gasket most likely handmade, is used to block the drain into the cup of tank.
Fuel is pumped, instead of drawn into the jet area.

Not really that good for idle. But more fuel available at wot.

Used on stock appearing engines. Wont pass tech for stock class.

Those the ones I sold you?

That’s a pumper carb. Sandwich a thin plate between two gaskets and install between the carb and tank. The plate should seal off the area where the milled slot is. That way, the diaphragm pumps fuel directly into the metering area. This is for alcohol only. I’ve never pumper work on gas, way too rich.
