flathead temps

its been awhile since ive been into the kart scene but were back again and im setting the mychron 4 up for max temp warning light. what is everyone setting their temp warnings at? thanks! also I believe my builder wants me to run 6800 rpm range.. whats a good rpm tattle setting?

With a steel bore engine, I like to see the engine get up to temp as quickly as possible (360*+) and no more than 425.*
The ex guide is the first thing to worry about on a fresh engine. Once it's got some time on it, you can run them a bit hotter, but 425* is what we recommend for peak temp warning light.

Keep in mind that an alcohol motor cools itself very quickly if you back out of the throttle once in a while.
Seeing the warning light come on doesn't necessarily mean "pull off the track," simply that you need to watch that the temp doesn't continue to increase (especially while leading a money race.) :)
