Gear ratio

If you kart is driving and sticking to the track well, should you chase that perfect gear ration. I was looking at a chart and noticed that as you go up in driver with different sprockets you can get an extra .02 or .03 in gear ratio but is it worth it or just fanatical?

Gearing is directly related to getting the most out of your motor on the racetrack. Check with your engine builder to see where it should hit max rpms at the end of the straight. Then hit it. The problem with dropping teeth to get more mph is that the motor may not be strong enough to carry the load that far.

Short answer NO, long answer HECK NO !! Only way you consider that is IF you knew 100 % everything was perfect, but that's IMPOSSIBLE
