Gold on Gold chain question

I recently bought a gold on gold chain for the first time. As per my usual habits i cleaned it and soaked it in oil. Checked it the next day and all the gold color was gone. Im assume the chain still works fine, am i wrong? Is there a purpose for the gold? Thanks

LOL sounds like it was a chinese piece of junk. The real gold DID, Renthal and other high end chains will not come off!

I have never had RLV gold on gold turn color.

Well it started as gold on gold, i put it in oil to soak and clean for the night. The whole chain was just metal color no gold the next day, i dont think there will be a performance issue but came on here to check.

The purpose of the gold is for pride in ownership. A new chain should come clean and packed with grease. Was the oil you soaked it in used/acidic? Sounds like it was painted gold not plated. What brand?

It was soaked in used 1 race old Thor oil. Just part of my chain maintenance.

I "cook ( in slow crock pot in oil for 24 hours)" my chain, has never changed colors.
