GX270 clutch

I have a buddy that just picked up a couple of Karts with GX270s on them, These were rental Karts at our local track they have the gear reduction and tourque converter set up on them. Hes in the process of of removing all the guards and safety crap and setting them up to play in the dirt. (Not Race just play) The clutches are shot. Question 1 do you need the gear reduction? 2 can we just swap over to a standard 1" drum clutch? Not finding very much info on this. Thanks
 
It is quite possible the output shaft is not 1" it may be metric and short, you may have trouble finding a clutch to fit without modifications.
