Holding crank

I thought L&T had a clutch tool that holds the inner section of the clutch while tightening the starter nut - I may be thinking Horstman - It has been a while.

If you're in a pinch, you could use a piston stop. Not my favorite method. If you do use it, roll the piston way below TDC and thread the stop down as far as it will go in the cylinder head. then roll the piston back the stop and tighten the nut. If you don't have a piston stop, I know some that have used rope that is pushed inside the cylinder (through the spart plug hole) to fill the volume in the head. It works...

Try looking on eBay for a holding tool.https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173849484746

Best tool for holding the crank when tightening any clutch or ignition rotor ?
The universal one....
A length of clean 1/4" nylon rope, just long enough to allow the piston to cover the exhaust port fully.
Costs almost nothing, and can be found just about anywhere.
Comes in many colors, and little chance of it being stolen if left out at the track.
Been using it for 50 years, hasn't let me down yet.
