Honda GX390 No Lash cap on this engine

Hi guys.

I work on these Honda's for leaf blowers.

This one, is a "Late model" engine with the new coil and 4 pin connector to kill switch.

Head gasket was leaking. I removed head, notice no Lash cap. also, head gasket didnt look OEM.


possible someone forgot the lash cap?

or

Never had one? Do some new engines come without lash caps?


engine ran, had been running...no signs of damage on valve tip to me......I pulled it apart because I heard the head gasket leaking and muff leak.
 
Not sure about the big block engines but some of the clone/Predator 212 type engines only use 1 lash cap. Some use none. Some have 2. I would look at the rocker arm angle at TDC, compare the two arms. Also, compare the retainers. Are they the same? The smaller engines that use 1 lash cap have a pocket formed in its cap while the other cap is different. Might get a clue there.
