This is valuable info for us new guys. Should be a place for newbees to find this like in the GOTO section.A hot box is a tool. Tools are a wise investment that generally hold their value extremely well.
You will use a hot box to prep and size tires regularly, so most find them very useful (at the track and at home.)
To me, the pan is essential. Not so much for pan rolling, but to catch what drips off of the rollers and not make a total mess of the box itself.
We wipe prep in our boxes regularly. Very rarely will we pan roll anything.
Closing the lid limits the smell in the shop, and also limits the amount of evaporation of prep (putting more prep into the tires where it belongs.)
