How do you fit an 8 degree timing key to advance the timing on a gx160 engine?

My Autistic son has found a release in karting.
He is hoping to start racing once he has taken the exam later this year.
But for now wants his kart tuned up, as he just wants to learn to control his kart at higher speed.
I have had the head skimmed, had emulsion tubes fitted, it's been ported, new uprated valve springs have been fitted etc... But I am unsure as to whether the cut out on the timing key goes to the right or left, can someone please help.
Thanks in advance.

When facing the flywheel the cranks key way will be to the left and the flywheels key way will be to the right. The gap between the two is moved from them being lined up with each other until the key fits.
