getting into karting and bought my nabbors stuff and with it came some creosote. I was told by a old timer it was used for the tires . Im not new to racing but new to kart racing Could you guys help a fellow out.

Creo is carsonogenic ans is a known chemical to cause cancer. That being said do not get it on your skin or breath it one bit. The original use for this stuff was to treat wood so that termites or other critters would not eat the wood. They would not eat it do to the fact that it would kill them. Point made? Now for the relevant information. Creo is used to soften a tire to a very low durometer reading such as a 10-20 and will ad tons of bite to the tire. When used you only need a cap full to a quart of prep. That's how strong it is. The most popular thing that I have heard people mixing it with is goat pee (also carsonogenic). This is for a track that is a mud hole. I have had good results on a dry slick track mixing a cap full of creo with a quart of corner speed. Also it is illegal to own creo in the USA....if you get caught

Thanks for the info I would like to know more about how it is used on tires . The kart came with maxxis tires some pinks and blues and some el

The problem with a new guy and creo, is that even for experienced karters its hard to know when the right time to use creo is. When its needed, it cant be beat...but if using it and the track dont call for it, you will be out in left field.
Some creo will soften, while another will just add bite.....and not all creo is the same!!

Earl is correct so I would recommend putting it on the shelf, but don't get rid of it. Learn some about tires through experience and then come back to explore the creosote roller coaster. I used to use a ton of it but now just mostly indoor stuff.

both beech and coaltar will soften, only creo that doesnt soften is the synthetic.both beech and coaltar are dangerous, best to leave it alone
