I just bought a flathead motor. I was passing through NC on my way home to Pa and did a craigslist search and found this motor. The seller says he has $1200 into it and was asking $550. I ended up buying it for $250. He was reluctant to sell that low, but it's all the cash I had. And with a new baby, he needed the cash, so...

Freshly rebuilt. Hasn't seen a race since rebuild. Still has break-in oil in it.

Dyno Cams Flathead
Dual bearing
Long billet rod
Burris flat top piston
ARC billet adjustable flywheel
348 Tillotson carb
Billet starter nut
Dyno Mod 2 cam
Dyno valve springs
Pulse type fuel pump
Wrapped exhaust header

I'm still very new to karting and am still learning. So what are everyone's thoughts on this motor? The seller seemed very knowledgable and insists this motor will be awesome.

Any feedback is appreciated.

is it possibly an "RNM" motor ?? my dealings with most has yielded the deep!dark secret of i really dont want to tell what cam i really put in there . sounds like you got your moneys worth in just the carb . bring the whole thing to turkey trot open fh pays 400.00 to win i think i know stock 375 pays 400. thexrnms ive seen have been pretty strong
 
Just 1 thing throws me off on this. A Dyno mod 2 cam is for a clone

This, plus the long rod / Burris piston combo......Unless it's a very old Burris piston, I don't think they've offered a piston for long (modified) rod for many years now. Now, I suppose it could be a stock length (+.005") rod and a current WKA legal Burris piston.

If the engine has a builder's decal or identification on it, I'd give him a call and see what more you can find out about this engine. Most builders that build engines for a living keep pretty accurate records of their engines and can tell you even more than you care to know about your engine.

If you can't get ahold of the original builder, I'd highly suggest you have it checked out by an engine builder that you trust before you go any farther with it.
For sure, you've got your money's worth in parts alone.
