Identify Flatheads

I will be getting a few Briggs flatheads and I am wanting to identify each block and know what generation it is. How can I identify the different flatheads.

The semi new ones have a aluminum strap connecting the intake and exhaust port to the valve spring chamber .
If they have original blower housings the serial number and model numbers are on there .
After that its piston and rod design .
Are they stockers or blueprinted race engines ?
Single tab heads are older then three tab .
Pull choke carbs are older then butterfly choke carbs .
Cast on cam timing gears are sought after cranks .
Then you have ball bearing flywheel side , bushing bearing or no bearing blocks .
Side covers are bearing or non bearing .
Most expendable parts interchange .

The 5hp Briggs was such a bastard engine. 'Yes I live/love them':)
You had no bearing, single bearing, dual bearing, aluminum bore, steel bore, so that alone gave 6 engines. Then you have single tab or three tab heads. Two bolt or three bolt intake. Round top and square top style blower housings.
When the fun power recreational engine hit they started to standardize more, the raptor was the real deal though for racers that didn’t want to dig through piles of engines. There’s so many little differences.
