Is my friction plate bad? šŸ“ø

I know 100% of yā€™all will say replace the disc. And I will. But what caused this? *inner edge of friction disc.
Bought it new from EC carb. Itā€™s ā€œegoā€ 2 disc.

Maybe 10 races on it. 6 (clone 425) 4 (clone 375)

Gap is around .040

Iā€™m pretty new to the disc clutch deal.

Probably should also say it got hot the last run and turned blueā€¦. Does the blue discoloring mean anything significant?

Checked flatness with my straight edge. (Iā€™ve only dropped it a hand full of times so I trust it with my life)

Thanks

Is it JUST that one friction disc that's chipped on the ID? I've seen rocks/dirt get inside the clutch and cause similar damage in this area. I wouldn't worry so much about that, as long as the friction material is completely flat where it contacts the steel pressure plate, floater, and backing plate. Surface sand each (or have them ground,) clean them up well with acetone, then reassemble with fewer shims to set your air gap back closer to .030," and you should be fine. Of course, it's easier to simply replace the discs, but if there is sufficient material remaining on your friction discs, you do not have to replace them. If they are worn too much to keep your air gap where you want it, there are thicker floater discs available.
Give us a call if you need anything.
