Kart suits

the answer i got was becasue we don't drive a full size car and have to "worry" about it....so they continue to use a old blue jeans jacket, jeans with holes in the knees, old tenny-shoes....and a pair of gloves that they used to change the kitty litter....me? two piece fire suit, valhalla 360 device, simpson/impact helmet (depending on day or night racing), nomex pilot gloves (a little lighter than stock car gloves, but just as flame proof), racequip shoes....

a fire proof suit doesnt provide abrasion protection(you go skidding across the ground you'll understand), we are not strapped into an open kart
For a champ kart fire suit mandatory
At a good track you wont see guys wear bluejean jackets

Yea but you also have a gas tank between your legs and that's my favorite area.

please show me where there has ever been a fire in a kart?
Not saying it couldnt happen, but in the 15 yr's ive been in karting I havent seen one, the tanks location protects it more than you think.
If you feel you need to wear one go ahead, but when you get slug out you would of wished you had more abrasion protection

been tosssed on my can once...never again!! i'm looking into a new suit for this coming season. abrasion resistance is a key factor, but i'm also looking at something that ain't gonna fry my arm too!! do they make a two piece suit for karting?

I wore a impact jacket and blue jeans the night I went end over end in my kart and was lucky enough not to have a mark anywhere on me other than my back when I landed

I prob look goofy but usually wear my dirt bike pants for this reason. They have nice padding and are better than wearing blue jeans with holes all through them that 95% of the kids i see wear.

My son wore jeans for 13 years and never was injured, to each his own

Im not saying just jeans. Im saying with the knee's ripped out. Holes in the butt region. When it gets really hot out I wear my flame resistaint work pants. Im just saying wereing jeans without holes imho is ok. Not ones that looks like I drug to work and back.

he's a kid of course they had holes in them, I complained all the time about buying wore out pants

I also wear blue jeans and a Burris or Simpson racing jacket. I have also flipped a few times in my 20 years racing and almost always was fine. I do have to say that the tank is a lot safer between your legs. I will also say I did catch on fire once about 8 years ago and still have the racing jacket here in my collection... Oil sprayed up on my arm on a flathead and must have got hot enough off the header and went up in flames. I thought my arm was getting hotter than normal but just kept racing until a caution came out like two laps later.... As soon as I let off the gas and slowed up I saw a big flash of orange/yellow come past my helmet. I had to jump out and rip my coat off and put it out. And yes I did finish the race. I have some pretty nasty scares from racing thru the days from being burnt and I always use a heat sleeve now a days.

Mine caught on fire a few years back at the king of the concrete. It was a flathead though..i saw the filter going up in flames. I was in my champ and I came out of it in a hurry. Never seen one with the tank between the legs catch on fire though.

That being said I still only wear my leather jacket. Before I earned it though I did have a suit I bought from Vanson.

My biggest problem with the suit was it gets hotttttttttt down here during the summer and that thing was a pain to wear throughout the day
