Kid Kart Project: HF 3HP Predator Motor

RF, any rules on this or can you run whatever you want provided it's not over a certain speed?
I would actually just mount a completely stock clone or predator, leave it governed, and adjust speed with gearing if allowed. The smaller motors can be troublesome, have smaller output shafts, different linkage and carbs, and aren't any less money than the 212cc on sale.

It'll just be for practice days so I can run whatever. If she decides to "race" then I have to go Comer. Putting that off for as long as I can.
Not too keen on running the extra weight of the 200+cc package in the event of a flippage. Having said that, I bought an LO206 for me and the wife, the 200cc clone "could" go on a kart for little one.

Maybe I could run a 200 with a Red - .375" plate and rejet accordingly?
Still though thats a chunk of motor hanging of the side of a teeny kart LOL

RF, the reason I brought it up was because we have some kid karts for the 5-7y/o class and its just for fun, all of them get a trophy and for safety reasons they get limited/geared to around 20mph tops. I think we've got 2 Honda 4hp and one guy mounted a stock 5.5HP on his kids kart.
Because of the weight differences in the kids, most of the kids have a lot of weight on their karts so I don't really see a difference if it's a chunk of lead or a bigger motor. My big block looks out of place on my Italkart but oh well;)

I did it last summer. Was only able to get my son out once with it. I can't get the Comer that was on the kart to run consistently.

I pulled the governor out of the engine. It's too much power (no restrictor). Before we go back out in the spring, I'm going to put a throttle stop on it.

It runs good and I have no regrets getting it. There are minibike in California that sell parts if you really want to get crazy.

If the governor has been taken out, adjusting the throttle stop should work. I read somewhere(here?) that one track was changing their kid kart class to clones and running them together in the transition phase, that they were pretty close around the track although different natured of course....out of the turns harder for the clone and more straightaway speed on the comer.
I just think if there is no rule on the engine, might as well use something you can utilize and un-cork as your kids grows and advances instead of having a bunch of oddball parts that don't fit anything.

We have a 2.5hp clone with governor in on a kid kart chassis, works great for little ones, we've had ours a few years now just for 4 and 5 yr olds to go out and try it, they can flat foot it with no problem.

i just bought a kid kart for my daughter.....everything minus motor. i already have a HF 79cc motor in the box and was going to just bolt it on as is until she learns the basics. my problem is, the kid kart already has a tiny engine plate with 4 holes welded onto the chassis in the spot that i am used to clamping motor mounts to. how does everyone else deal with this? do i cut the existing plate off an grind it down so i can use the clamp ype mounts on the rails......or is there some kind of adapter out there i don't know about? the current plate's holes are only 2' or so apart and wont allow me to bolt a HF motor directly to it

I am surprised these aren't taking over kid kart classes, 79cc ohv clones. I've often thought they would be superior to the overpriced Comer. You see these on minibikes, but most think they are junk and get 6.5 clone. Obviously, Flying_5_Racing knows how to make his run, see his vid.

Home Depot sells a version of 79cc ohv engine too. Ad very confusing, but it's 79cc ohv engine with 5/8" PTO. Harbor Freight will be less $'s.

I have one for my sons kid kart, i too am looking to get away from the comers. It does very well against the comer even the c51. The only thing ive noticed is the 2 stroke will pull us out of the hole but once the 2.5 gets turning some rpm it can easily run down the comer. I ported the head on ours and a couple other things, it is a really nice hassle free piece. Hope this helps

Halffast, have you tried installing black spring in clutch? The stock clutch lugs the engine, stiffer black spring will allow clutch slip to approx 3000 rpms, makes a huge diff.
