Its not about penalizing guys for being fast and you know it. Its about putting on a real race. Youve been around racing long enough to know that back in the day, and when grandstands were full at even the weekly races, it was normal for tracks to invert fields fully. It wasn't until race cars became store bought and the couple of new guys whose daddys spent a boatload of money to see their kid race only to discover the kid can't drive started threatening track promotors to not come back to their track to race unless he could start up front. Promotors, not wanting to see $$$ slipping away, caved. And so did attendance numbers.
