Thread is from 2016.
Right angle grinder and 120, be a good long time to cut a Burris where needed to be.
Maxxis could be done if you can do it properly. Seen lots of ruined Maxxis which was cut by hand by folks who didnt know what they were doing.
Heat can be an issue also.

Good luck cutting a Burris (.110" tread depth) down to even an .080" tire with just a grinder and 120 flapper disc.

Flapper discs work for refinishing a tire, not so much for rapid and wholesale removal of rubber.
A Maxxis is .060" and plastic to begin with - have at those with your flapper disc all you want, but as Earl said, don't expect much success without years of experience.

In reality, don't expect any level of consistency without a template when removing large amounts of rubber. Even if you're going to go the bondo file route, duplicating contact patch profiles when starting with thick rubber tires (like Burris) is a daunting task for even the most experienced tire guys.

There are many racers who drop a thousand dollars or more on tires alone to race one weekend at bigger events.
A Jones machine is an investment - like any other tool. It's value drops little over time, and if used successfully, can pay for itself in the right hands.

No template no consistency is my thing on that.
