Lite Preps & Conditioners

We typically condition all of our tires (Maxxis) with either Hot Lap 2 or AT-2. I feel like in the warmer months at bigger shows even those tires have a little too much bite.

My question is what are some recommendations for a "lighter" conditioner?

I have wiped Track Tac Ruby, Insanity Hard Track, etc before. Those feel like lighter, less oily preps but not sure if they will work as a weekly conditioner.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I think the chemical is half the story so don't pin your issue solely on that alone.

You could have already ruled this out but for instance, you could be correct on the chemical to use, but using it on the wrong age and thickness of tire needed for the track and vice-versa.

You almost have to come from a family of kart racers, that have been doing this for 15+ years, to have the kind of knowledge needed to make a call like this. Combine that with the cost of tires/preps needed to be competitive, and you have the answer to low kart counts. It blows my mind, when people blame anything else. When a veteran racer decides to hang it up, there is no-one there to take his place, due to the seemingly impossible task of retaining new racers. The sport can only survive for so long with that business model.

Are these full rubber or cuts? You may simply need to be on cuts

Thanks guys. I agree on tire age, thickness, etc. We have a pretty good variation there. Overall, I was looking for some opinions on lighter conditioners.

How far in between races are you try8ng to keep them fresh? You can weekly wipe a hard track type prep and that will keep them fresh. I usually use hotlap if Im going to set them to the side for a couple weeks and dont want to wipe weekely with a hard track product

HL2 or even AT2 is probably the lightest of all preps out there being used today, and in no way should be making too much bite for anybody.
I would recommend calling and talking to Chris at Track Tac since you feel that these 2 preps are hurting you, and also since you are using these 2 specific preps. Im betting there is another issue there and Chris can find that and help you if you call him.
In warmer months in the South, the winners are using preps( when needed) that add bunches more bite than what either of the 2 that you mentioned and are winning.

Are you torching or warming tires with a hot box? Are they used tires that the previous owners may gave soaked them with the aggressive stuff? Many times the hot weather will ask for an older date code “cured” tire that has a higher duro than a fresh new set…
