Hello,
I've built plenty of flatheads and a handful of clones ohv engines. Id like to tackle building a decent reliable GX390 for open class racing. Dirt oval 1/5mile track. Can anyone give me some guidance and direction to accomplish this..? Machine work and assembly is not an issue here clearances etc.. Ive build many stock car and kart engines, just never worked with the big block Honda's and some help with a combination would help. and some interchangeability and carb choices.
Thanks in advance.

Building a big block is same principle as any racing engine.... It about how much money you are willing to spend, parts are a little high for these but getting better.....As for advice... you will not need to turn it hard to make power <7000rpms,... do about anything to stock engine you will need a billet rod...... stock Honda flywheel is better then most think it is, stock clone flywheel is worst then most believe......Keeping the chain tight is harder then it seems......$$$$$$$....etc. etc........ But once you have finished the engine you will love the torque and power, it's as addictive as crack.......Good places to shop for parts, and I no there are others out there are, http://www.nrracing.com/ http://vegascarts.com/webstore/ http://www.mikeclementsracing.com/index.html and http://www.parsonsracingengines.com/.......these are all good places, and I have used all of them myself.........Welcome to the world of TORQUE..

Thank you. I've worked with NR racing for most of my clone parts etc.. very familiar with them. I figured a 7-8000 RPM range would be suitable as its a big engine. ARC flywheel and Billet Rod was a no brainer for me. I will do some research and see where I want to go with it. Thanks again.

Oh bye the way...as for carbs...I use the Mikuni 33mm pumper carb on meth................I think it's one of the best carbs for the Gx390.
