Motor Oil

Years ago when I was racing we all ran methanol and I I used FHS oil. I’m just getting back into karting with my grandson and see most everyone is running gas. What are the go to oils of the day. He’ll be running a purple plate clone. Not looking for the performance edge right now, just want something reliable. My thoughts are just regular SAE 30 for now.

I curious why the high end synthetics for a gas engine. The only reason I ran it back then was because it was soluble with the methanol that got past the rings.

SAE 30 works great, we ran it our entire first season with our purple plate motor. Motor looked great on tear down with ZERO issues. Once you're getting super competitive, then you want those extra tenths and can switch up to a high end race oil like KRT or Sox oil.
