Mychron Calibration

Does anyone know if there is a way to re-calibrate a Mychron? We noticed at the track that when the rev limiter of 6100rpm kicks in on the motor the Mychron is way, way off. We took the motor to the dyno and verified everything in regards to the re limiter and also confirmed that the Mychron is not reading correctly.

Anyone ever have this issue? Suggestions?

Send it back to Aim and have it calibrated. A gauge is totally worthless if you can't trust the data it gives you.
Keep in mind that most rev limiters on the 206 come in lower than the 6100 -- although they are pretty consistent, they are consistently below 6100. Your dyno would have shown you that.

Dyno showed us at 6025rpms the Mychron was reading 5700-5800. It was not consistent so we know it needs to get fixed.

Are you sure you had the lead hooked up correctly?

We always wrap it three times around the plug wire, with the RPM lead tail pointing to the spark plug

contact aim, we have had ours done by them. very quick, if you ship to them early in the week you will have it back in a few days. they usually get it in and out the same day

This is the response I received back from AIM. Thought I would share with everyone since their recommendation is a little different than what others have said.

"There is no calibration really for the RPM signal...as long the RPM Factor is set correctly (under Menu>>Control Panel>>RPM Setup) and the maximum RPM setting is ABOVE whatever you expect the motor to actually turn, then everything should be correct. One thing you may want to check is the RPM lead itself. Be sure that the RPM wire is either wired into the 'hot' side of the killswitch (if it is still available), or wrapped around the spark plug wire at least five or so times and tie-wrapped down to the chassis every 5-6" or so. This will ensure that you get a solid RPM signal and an accurate reading."
