New cars...years later

I've always wondered what's going to happen with new vehicles these days 30-40+ years down the road.
Everything now is electronic and has infotainment systems in them. With any computer that has this much information there will always be software updates.
If anyone is in the auto industry...how're they planning to handle things later on down the lines? Couple examples...GPS systems. 30 years from now are there still going to be updates to these "old" vehicles? Carplay is big now with Apple...but eventually will vehicles be to old to work with smartphones as their systems all change? Even Sirius radio is constantly doing live software updates.
Thoughts?
 
Your new/old car will be obsolete 30 years down the road.
Even now I don't think they have to support or provided replacment parts after a certain number of years .
 
Makes you wonder if later on down the line there will be "Vintage Programmers/Techs". People that run diagnostics and software updates that can be used to some degree of that day and age of technology :unsure:

I’ve been an automotive service tech for 25 years and never thought of that. Interesting to think about.
 
Highly likely as it takes a special mechanic to fix the old flatheads , specialists for the British stuff . Shoot I asked my son if he wanted my extra dwell meter ? Reply , why there hasnt been one vehicle with points i have ever worked on .

Just be glad he knew what it was for. Most kids now a days can't even open the hood.
 
We build cars today to be disposable. Because in the auto industry it's cheaper and more cost efficient. But as long you have a computer for diagnoses should be simple to reflash the vehicle to reboot or fix a ecu. We do it all the time on brand new cars.

I understand the idea of flashing back to original or running a diagnostics test and correcting it. I'm more curious about software compatibility later on down the line for these cars. For example (and not to side track it), if you tried to run Windows 3.0 which released almost 30 years ago....it would not work in todays tech world no matter what you did to try and modernize it.
Same with cars...30 years from now when technology has gone above and beyond where we are now, how will cars that have these fancy computers be able to adapt to what is the new standard? GPS systems will be outdated and most likely no upgrades and deem unusable. Apply Airplay....good luck....they give up running phone software updates around 4 generations old which leaves the old ones stranded.
I just have a feeling that engineers are aware of this and they know this is a problem but are thinking "not my problem right now"
 
After looking at some of the modern day tuner forums I watch, I somehow think 20-30 years from now we maybe able to reflash today’s cars by talking to our phones or whatever technology is available then. Even today’s cars are able to easily get remapped . Kinda makes me remember of y2k.
 
What makes you think in 30 years there will even be a phone ?
Try to buy a new vcr or find someone to fix one today .

That’s a strong possibility in 30 years who knows what could happen. But according to the movie “back to the future” we should have flying cars by now. That’s a disappointment 🤷‍♂️
