No compression

Hello got a baja 196cc. Decided to take the governor out the other day. Put it all make together and went to start the next day and nothing. Just pulls. Checked compression and nothing. Took it back apart. Now this is the odd part. When I take the cover off and push the cam a little I have compression. When I put the cover on and pull no compression. So somewhere between no cover on then cover on something is happening. I set the lash and put it in time. The push rods are on the valves. I dont know why it has compression when the cover is off then when put on 0 compression. Please help.

Leave side cover on and loosen lash.

If you have compression, the lash has been set incorrectly.

I like to set lash using the following method.

Roll engine in the direction it runs.
When the exhaust starts to open, set the intake lash.
When the intake fully opens, and starts to close, set the exhaust.

This will ensure you are on the correct stroke, and not influenced by the compression release.

Figured it out. Valves were to tight. Even though it was the correct valve lash. I loosened them up a tad now theres compression. I'll update tomorrow when I start it. Got to let the gasket sit over night
