NorCal UAS race #1

Well, NorCal UAS regional race number #1 is in the books! The karts to beat all night were Richard Torzilli who was making his first UAS appearance, and Ryan Diatte.

The night started with 12 entries, but really it was a gunfight all night between the #3 and the #11 the qualified top two with only a couple hundredths of a second separating them they both won their respected heats, and Richard Torzilli came out on top in the dash. In the main Torzilli jumped to the early lead, and by the halfway point looked very settled and calm, Diatte showed the nose a couple times, but didn't have enough race track to get it done. Just when everyone thought Torzilli had it in the bag he must have gotten a little too complacent in the kart, on lap 15 exiting turn two he drove a little low on the race track, upsetting the chassis resulting in a spin bringing out the races only caution. For the lap 16 restart Diatte was on point and never looked back, Torzilli clawed back in the final nine laps giving a lesson on how to work through traffic making it back to third place right behind Scott Smith who drove a great race to claim the runner up position at the end of the night.

Special thanks to all who came out and supported the race, Dixon Speedway for providing the great racing facility, and to Gil Atkinson for summing up my melted piston racing night with the catch phrase "they run better on fuel than they do on aluminum"
