Oil for Predator

I run Rotella 15w-40 T4 for break-in generally just doing an oil change after every race day for the first 3 days on our 420cc motors. Then I switch over to Briggs/Amsoil 4T every race weekend for the remaining time on the motor which we basically run them till they come apart which seems to be breaking the crankshaft but after about a year and a half of running.

Mobile 1 in 5w-30 or Valvoline racing oil in 10w-30 seems to work pretty well for me.

People talk about not using a synthetic for break-in (rings won't seat, etc), but that's BS. You need good lubrication for the engine when it first starts & is cold (fairly thin), then a very good high temp film strength when it's hot & running hard. Don't use additives (zinc stuff is really bad for most oils & can do damage when used with some oils) but use good oil which is made right from the manufacturer with proper additives. Just my $.02 woth, & YMMV.

Lol Valvoline VR1 10W30 has 2 styles, conventional and synthetic, zinc isn't bad at all, Its good for racing engines, VR1 is zinc fortified
