It all depends on your level of competition. Locally, it will absolutely compete. If you are running against teams with the best of the best equipment and have their tire program nailed down, the Phenom will be a good .2 tenths off the newer stuff, all things being equal

good info above , the only reason i said stock classes is becouse i race Opens . and you never know when you will just plain old get out powered in the open classes . i have seen guys win with 10 year and older chassis against brand new chassis with just horse power

I've always wanted to try this experiment. Every time that I have put a driver into a new kart they have always said it felt better and loved it. The stop watch said so to. I've wanted to take one of these old kart frames, strip the paint, re-powder coat it, re- decal it, and replace everything else with new. Then give it as a new kart and see what the drivers feed back is. Problem is it has always been more cost effective to replace the chassis then replace just all the parts.

If you been ridin that 05 for a good while and you know all about it go for it ever sense all the chassic have come out with all this adjustments which i think yours has set it up and go just think have that prep **** out of the picture would help alot of people that maybe have not learned yet on how to make fast and maybe there time in the seat oh yea i know i am going to hear it from those sold on the pred **** lolllll!

sometimes set up info, or the way the kart is prepared can surpass the technology behind the way the kart was ment to work ...so when you change the way things are being done weekly it may be because of a new tip or things that others are winning with ...it may help with an older kart but it really shows up when you match the new with the new.

JP said exactly what you need to know. If you just plan on running locally and maybe going to a slightly bigger show here and there you will be just fine. But if you plan on going to big shows then no it will not keep up. Not when you have guys on new chassis who know how to hook them up no matter what the conditions are.

I dont know what year my kart chassis is or make of it. But its a straight kart and is non adjustable. I believe if i just drove, put a good setup on it, i would beat the guys who own all the new karts

If you're racing on pavement a straight kart might work, on dirt, you might be able to work well if you can find some old timer that remembers how to do it, but I can tell you that many yrs. back , the biggest problem I had was that I couldn't move the L/R in far enough, then someone built the LTO kart.
