Briggs flathead crank. Do i retard the gear on the crank and advance the cam like the old limiteds?

I use the 27 tooth gear on the crank made for the flathead crank in a stroker animal. The crank gears I've used have only one keyway cut in them. I just advance the cam as desired.

You can, or just use the adjustable billet cams so you can move the cam timing around where you want it better.

Like Bpoirier mentioned you need the 27 tooth gear to use with the flathead crank with an animal cam gear. The flathead crank gear will not work.
