small pickup will generally screw in with a 3/8" socket, but if it's loose, you can peen around the hole a bit to tighten it up.. same for the large pickup.. I've even swaged the end of the copper tube a bit so it will fit tighter.
They simply push in (they are not threaded.) The short stem has a knurled finish to the aluminum inside the carb -- that is sufficient to hold it in place.
On the brass (long stem) pick up tube, I use a brake line flaring tool and give the end of the brass stem a very slight bit of a flare. Knurl the outside of the tube where it presses into the carb, then put a dab of red Loctite on the outside only. Tap it in with a ballpein hammer and you're good to go. Fixed a many of these carbs this way over the years.
