Don't see anything wrong with this.
If you feel its too loose you can always tighten it up.

I'd be a little closer as well, but there's so much more involved than to just give a blanket answer - oil clearance for the brand/weight of oil that you will be running, cylinder temperature aimed for, and more.

.003" - .0035" should work fine, but can you make more power with less piston rock and ring flutter at higher rpm? I think so.
