Powder coated frame

I see where people re-powder coat frames all the time. Will being put in a oven hurt the performance? I’m curious to see answers.

Older chassis it can help.
Had one 2 seasons old re done and it couldn't get out of its own way

I’ve had several done over the years, never had an issue after with performance. The guy that does my stuff has done just about any race chassis that’s out there. Maybe he has some untold secrets 🤔

If the powder guy is doing his job correctly, the oven will never see over 350-400*F which is where 95% of all powders cure at. There are some low temp powders and high temp powders but normally not used on chassis. Chromemoly tubing should have no issue with 350-400* for 60 mins. If these were Aluminum or something then I'd be worried but not 4130.

Aluminum properties will change the grain structure at around 400°, so powdercoating aluminum in inadvisable, but steels will have no problem with it. They require 900° or so to change their internal properties. I'd try brillo pad, alcohol clean, and then plastidip for rims...
