Any tracks I’m SE NC offer any practice days for a kid starting out in karting? Would like some seat time prior to throwing him out to the wolves.

Contact the track you would like doing this at and ask them. Most tracks will allow a kid to practice day after a race.

If they won't allow on track outside of a regular event because of insurance purposes, if you talk to them before you sign him up and explain your concern they will accommodate you and give laps by themselves.
